Before I start, let me confess - Halloween or no Halloween - I am a card carrying 'Yard-Sale-Aholic' - and have repeatedly refused to take part in any 12 step program to cure myself !!! That said, let me continue...
In addition to the obvious Halloween decorations that might be available throughout the year at various yard sales, I have learned to keep my eyes open for other things that might lend themselves to my Halloween display. In the past I have picked up the foam style jack-o-lanterns for 50¢ or a dollar along with purple and orange strings of lights (many new and never opened). But I have also been able to find large pieces of black material, black sheet sets, mini strobe lights, nearly full cans of spray paint and numberous other items which lend themselves to my creations (found a wonderful crouching gargoyle for 25¢ !).
So don't be shy - and be ready to bargain and you might find just the thing you never-knew-you-needed for your Haunted Halloween display!
Included in my 'shopping list' (in addition to the obvious) are: - black fabric/sheets
- extension cords
- chain (plastic or metal)
- christmas candles
| - lumber
- specialty lighting
- sheer curtains
- ass't hardware

A little tip: Don't avoid buying (particularly at yard sales) 1/2 of a pair. Example: Bride and Groom Skeletons. You want both of them, but you find just one. As long as you don't have to invest too much, it's worth buying the one you can get for two reasons:- Either one could be used alone, and
- it's amazing how many times similar items appear at yard sales about the same time. (Particularly items that were available for original purchase during a single year). It seems like everybody gets bored with them about the same time.
