TRANSLOADER

FIRST:

A Question

!

Look closely at the following two images:

IMAGE 1
and
IMAGE 2
Web TV gifWeb TV gif

Now, can you tell me the difference
between 'Image 1' and 'Image 2'

?

?

?

?

?

?

?

?

(Is the suspense killing you???)

Well, the images themselves are the same...
but how they got to my page so that you could
look at them is what is different...
completely different!

'Image 1' is stored right here at this homepage
address. (It probably loaded first.)
However, in order for you to see 'Image 2' it must
come to this page from another person's site...

Wait...
Don't Worry...

The site owner know's I'm stealing his image
(& his bandwidth - whatever that means exactly).

The image comes from
http://gifs123.tripod.com/webtv2.gif
(You can click on this link to go there.)

The guy who runs the page is named Draac and he's
put this great site together for us Web TV-ers...
but more about that at another time...
on another page...

What I want to talk about here and now is how
to get an image from point 'A' to point 'B'...
And THAT'S what the 'Transloader' is for!
Before I give you the link to the transloader site,
I've prepared a 'quickie' tutorial on how to
use it to get an image from one site to another...

Now, understand, I don't profess to know
all there is to know about this thing,
but
what follows will give you the basic info you need
to copy an image from my site to yours...

Soooooooo.....

Here goes!

NOTE:

  1. For the puposes of this 'recreation'
    of the actual transload page:
    • The symbol § = a teardrop image
      on the actual page.
      and
    • The Symbol ¤ = a cookie image
      on the actual page.
  2. The gray areas give a quick explanation
of each section of the form.
  3. This only a dummy form. It will not
transload anything! It's just trying to give
you a very superficial explanation of how to
use the transloader. To do anything beyond
transferring an image file, you need to
read the 'FAQ' page that is a part of the
'real' transloader page. The same is true as
to the explanation of 'cookies' as they are
    used in the transloader.
  4. The author of this page offers no guarantees
&/or makes no claims as to the
    • availablity
    • reliability
    • ownership
    • creation
    • etc.
of the transloader, nor to any problems that
may occur during the use of same. Each user
is responsible for reading all explainations,
disclaimers, copyright notices, etc that are
    offered at the transloader site.
The transloader and all of it's elements are

'Bill's Playscript Library' only provides the
information available on this page as a way to
introduce the reader to the possibilities for
moving an uncopyrighted image or text file to
    his/her own homepage site.

By scrolling down on this page to continue,
you indicate that you understand and agree to
the above posted NOTES ("Terms Of Use")
for this 'help' page.

OKAY!

When you first arrive at the transloader you
should look in the upper left hand corner of your
screen... You hope to see a little blue box that
looks sorta like this:

  TL
  OK

which means that you'll be able to transload
an image or text file.

IF
you see a box (Red in color) that says 'Busy,'
it just means that too many people are using the
system and you will need to come back later...

When the "TL OK" box is present you can scroll
down where you will find informational and
copyright links. Below them you will find the
form that you will need to fill in... It will
look something like this:

Last Visited URL: § (A)

WHAT
YOU
DO:

[Automatic]

This field fills in automatically when you arrive, showing the URL for the last web page you visited before coming to the transloader site. If you want to transload that particular URL, merely click on the 'teardrop' graphic and the "Last Visited URL" information will be copied to the "Source URL" field.

¤ Source URL: (R)

WHAT
YOU
DO:

[Required]

This is the URL for the image you want to move. If you were not able to use the duplicating feature above you will need to type it in. IF you are using copy & paste to do this, be sure you don't duplicate the 'http://' portion of the URL since it is already provided in the field.

Rename to: (O)

WHAT
YOU
DO:

[Optional]

You only need to fill this in if you want to change the name of the file. Actually, you can change the file name after the file is moved, so if you change your mind about this you can make a name change later. However, IF YOU DO change the file name, be sure that you include the appropriate gif or jpg (or other) ending! (Failure to do this means that the file will not be an image file when you go to look at it at your site after the move.)

¤ Target FTP Server: (R)

WHAT
YOU
DO:

[Required]

In layman's terms, this is sort of the 'go-between' for getting the image from it's original location (the "Source URL") to your homepage directory. For Tripod sites use: ftp.tripod.com and for geocities use ftp.geocities.com. If your homepage is with another provider you may need to check as to whether (and how) they offer this service.

¤ Target Account Name: (R)

WHAT
YOU
DO:

[Required]

This is the name you use when signing on at your homepage provider when you want to edit your pages. At tripod it with also be the name of your main directory (without the '~') while at geocities, it is the sign-in/member name only (and not a part of your site's URL).

¤ Target Account Password: (R)

WHAT
YOU
DO:

[Required]

This is the password you use when logging on to word on your homepage. It is suggested that you should change your password often or you may want to have a second password that you switch to whenever using a service like the transloader.

¤ Upload Directory: (O)

WHAT
YOU
DO:

[Optional]

If you have a subdirectory to which you would like to have the image file directed, enter it here. Of course, even if you send the image file to your main directory you should be able to relocate it later should you change your mind about where you'd like to store the image.

Transload in ASCII Mode: For plain text files such as HTML. (O)
Direct to Editor: Lets you edit HTML files on-line. (O)
Expand Characters: Uses GIFs as your character fonts. (O)
Clip Guestbook Entry: (MM/DD/YY hh:mm:ss) (O)

WHAT
YOU
DO:

[All Optional]

None of these apply to transloading an image. However you can find more out about them at the actual transloader site should you want to move an HTML file.

If the system status image shows "TL OK",
you can press:
*
¤

WHAT
YOU
DO:

TRANSLOAD:
Hit this button when you are ready to transload the selected image
RESET:
Will clear all the information you have entered
SAVE COOKIES/DISCARD COOKIES:
These are defined on the transloader page by clicking on one of the cookie images.

Once you hit the "Transload" button you
will be taken to a page which will let you
know that the process has begun. You will
automatically (within about 10 seconds) be
taken to another page where you can watch
the progress of the transloading. As is
indicated, you will need to reload the page
several times before the process is complete.
When the process is done you will see a

button which you click on to finish the process
& free up the transloader for other users.

Alright!

There's your quickie lesson...

Now, if you know the URL of an image
you need to move, you can click on
the transloader address below.

or

if you just wanna try it out,
here's a cute image to Use:

COOL CHICKEN

The "Source URL" for this image is:
