SECTION 3 (From The 'Halloween Notebook') |
I had already begun construction of an archway which would sit at the entrance to the front walkway leading to my house. I had not originally planned to have gates for the arch until I suddenly remember that old crib sitting out back of the house. So I set to work dismantling it into it's separate pieces (discussed previously) and was now ready to put hose four end pieces to use. |
STEP ONE: Place the end pieces (bottom edges toward the center), leaving room for a piece of 1x4 lumber in between the ends. STEP TWO: Cut two pieces (one for each gate) of 1X4 to a length equal to the width of the end pieces and four pieces of 1x2 firring stip (again, twice as many as are needed for one gate) equal to the length of the two end pieces plus the width of the 1x4 (see orange sections in drawing). STEP THREE: Paint your gates with a flat black paint and attach to your archway or fence. |
Here are two photos of the gates as they were attached to my archway. |
NOW all I had to do was figure out a good use for the two remaining crib sections that were still left outside behind the shed... |
